Welcome. I’m Carmen, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California (Lic. #16818).

MY GOAL AS A THERAPIST IS TO MEET CLIENTS WHERE THEY ARE, BUILD ON THE STRENGTHS THEY ALREADY POSSESS, AND DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO HELP COPE WITH LIFE'S UPS AND DOWNS MORE EFFECTIVELY.

With over ten years of experience in the mental health field, I specialize in helping adults navigate life’s most challenging transitions. Whether you are healing from trauma, managing symptoms of depression or anxiety, recovering from addiction, or simply seeking a sense of peace in the daily grind, my goal is to support you in your journey towards living your most authentic life.

Approach: We will collaborate using evidence-based practices tailored to your needs, including:

  • EMDR for trauma processing

  • CBT & DBT for practical coping and emotional regulation

  • Attachment-Based Therapy to understand your foundational relationships

Providing high quality, evidence based telehealth services to adults across California. Veritas Therapy and Wellness is dedicated to clinical excellence in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and addiction.

You don’t have to do this alone and I am here to affirm that healing is possible.

Veritas is the Latin word for Truth. In the context of therapy, truth isn’t just about facts; it’s about authenticity. It represents the courageous process of peeling back the layers of expectation, fear, and habit to discover who you truly are. At Veritas Therapy & Wellness, I provide a safe harbor for that discovery, helping you align your daily life with your deepest personal truths.

In Roman mythology, Veritas was the goddess of truth, said to be hidden in the bottom of a holy well.

FAQs

  • Therapy is a collaborative process where you and your therapist work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals, focusing on understanding challenges, building skills, and fostering personal growth. The pace is always guided by your comfort level, creating a path toward healing and positive change.

  • My aim is to cultivate a safe environment where clients can openly share and explore their challenges. I use thoughtful questions to facilitate self-discovery and help clients make crucial connections. A core component of my work is supporting clients in building and strengthening practical skills to successfully navigate life's difficulties. At the heart of my therapeutic philosophy is the pursuit of alignment between values, beliefs, actions, and goals. I recognize this as a personalized journey, and I provide unwavering support and guidance as we work together to identify and establish realistic goals, fostering the motivation needed to realize their capacity for meaningful change.

  • At Veritas Therapy and Wellness, I am committed to providing the highest quality of care, focused entirely on your individual growth and healing. To maintain the highest standards of privacy, flexibility, and clinical integrity, I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance companies directly.

My current fee is $180 per 50 minute session. While I am not in-network with insurance providers, many clients receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits*. I can provide a monthly superbill to assist with this.

Choosing a private-pay model allows us to focus on what truly matters: your journey. Here is how this benefits your treatment:

    The Benefits of Private Pay

    • Ultimate Privacy: When you pay out-of-pocket, your therapy remains a private matter. No mental health diagnosis is required to be shared with an insurance company, ensuring your clinical records stay confidential and do not become part of your permanent medical file.

    • No Labels Required: Insurance companies typically require a formal diagnosis to authorize treatment. Private pay allows us to work on what you find important—such as life transitions, aligning your actions with your values, or personal growth—without the need for a clinical "label."

    • Tailored Treatment: Your healing shouldn't be dictated by a third-party reviewer. We decide together on the frequency and length of your sessions, ensuring your care is based on your progress and needs, not a capped number of sessions.

    • Dedicated Focus: By remaining out-of-network, I am able to dedicate my time and energy to clinical research and personalized session preparation for you, rather than navigating the administrative hurdles of insurance panels.

Note: I always recommend folks reach out to their insurance companies prior to initiating therapy with me to ensure that their insurance company will accept a superbill if reimbursement is a necessity for you.

*You can use your HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) to pay for sessions.

  • Telehealth is simply a professional therapy session conducted via a secure, high-quality video platform rather than in person. It allows you to receive the same dedicated, one-on-one care from the comfort and privacy of your own home, office, or any quiet space you choose.

    The Logistics

    • The Platform: I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform designed specifically for healthcare. It is much more private and secure than standard video apps like FaceTime or Skype.

    • The Connection: Before our session, you will receive a unique link via email or text. You simply click the link on your computer, tablet, or smartphone to enter our "virtual waiting room."

    • The Setting: All you need is a stable internet connection, a private space where you won't be interrupted, and a comfortable place to sit.

    Is Telehealth right for me?

Most clients find that Telehealth offers several unique benefits:

    • Accessibility: No need to worry about traffic, parking, or commuting.

    • Comfort: You can engage in deep, transformative work while in your own environment (and even with your favorite cup of tea).

    • Consistency: It is often easier to maintain regular sessions even during inclement weather or minor illnesses.

Note on Eligibility: Due to state licensing regulations, I can only provide Telehealth services to clients who are physically located in the state of California where I am licensed at the time of the session.

We will establish a safety plan during our first session to ensure that if our connection drops or an emergency arises, we have a clear protocol to follow.

  • During the first session, I focus on getting to know you and creating a foundation of trust and comfort. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, so I aim to make this step as supportive and stress-free as possible. You’re in control of what you choose to share—there’s no rush to dive into details until you feel prepared. Together, we’ll build a sense of safety and develop tools to ensure that when you’re ready to explore deeper topics, you’ll feel supported and confident in the process.

  • Currently, my practice is focused on clients residing in California, where I hold my professional licensure. However, I am in the process of expanding my services to additional states in the near future.

  • My practice is currently dedicated to providing individual therapy for adults (18+). At this time, I am not accepting new child, adolescent, couple, or family clients.

  • First things first, pat yourself on the back. You’re off to a great start! Feel free to reach out via the contact page, or call at (619) 663-8894. We’ll schedule a 15-minute consultation call to help us get to know each other and determine if I’m the right fit for your needs. During the consultation, you can share a little about what’s bringing you to therapy and learn more about my approach. Feel free to ask any questions—it’s an opportunity to explore how we can work together and decide if moving forward with a therapy intake feels right for you.
